Kerb appeal The Baleno is blessed with gracefully flowing contours, a low-slung body, a rising shoulder line and a swept-back roofline that culminates in a rakish spoiler. It’s these kinds of details that help provide the car with its eye-catching, fluid appearance. Fluidity can mean a number of things, of course, and here, it also relates to how easy the car is to access, thanks to a five-door body that includes wide-opening rear doors.
Arctic White or Fire Red? Or… The vehicle looks rather natty in Arctic White. Or Fire Red. To secure either colour, you don’t need to spend a cent more. That said, if you want your Baleno to come with a subtly sparkly look – Stargaze Blue, Premium Silver and Granite Grey are your metallic options.
Back to black Black-coloured A, B and C pillars provide the Baleno with its ‘floating roof’ design. And the effect is further enhanced by the inclusion of privacy glass, which not only prevents unwanted eyes from looking in, it also helps to reduce the effects of intense sunshine.
Colour-coded While the window section of the car provides an attractively dark contrast to the main body, a number of colour-coded fixtures subtly enhance your paint finish of choice. These include body-coloured door mirrors, door handles, bumpers and the aforementioned roof spoiler – all helping to bring a cohesive look to the vehicle.
Inside the Baleno One of the largest vehicles in its class, the Suzuki Baleno offers plenty of room in both passenger compartments. And as well as space for five travellers, you’ll also discover a good amount of stowage cubbies, including a large-bottle-consuming glove compartment and capacious door pockets. The car features a class-competitive 355-litre boot too, which quickly expands to 756-litres when 60/40 split-folding rear seats are dropped.
Audio An MP3-compatible six-speaker sound system is fitted as standard, providing you with several entertainment options. With Bluetooth, for example, you can stream music or spoken word content from your compatible devices – and make those extra-long journeys pass by much more quickly.
Visual A standard-issue touchscreen is your point of access for a number features, including satellite navigation. And since Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also featured, you can easily link your smartphone – and access its contents via the car’s own screen.
Reverse with ease A reversing camera is part of the Baleno’s standard portfolio of equipment, which means that backing into a parking space, no matter how tight, is surprisingly straightforward. By keeping an eye on the camera’s output via the display screen in front of you, you’ll soon be parking like a pro.
Performance GL Trims are installed with a 1.4-litre 68kW petrol engine, which is paired with five-speed manual transmission (GLX grades come with four-speed automatic transmission). This allows the Baleno to return a combined fuel-economy figure of 5.1 litres per 100 km (5.4 litres with GLX trims) and produce CO2 emissions from 118g/km (126g/km with GLX grades).
Passive safety features The Suzuki Baleno is fitted with front, side and curtain airbags, six in total. Three-point seatbelts are situated in every position, and front-row travellers have the added benefit of pre-tensioning and load-limiting safety belts. Furthermore, child-seat anchorage points are featured in the rear compartment.
Active safety features A number of driver aids are featured, including Anti-lock Braking System and Electronic Stability Program. Another useful piece of kit is Hill-hold Control, which kicks in automatically whenever the engine is started on an incline, thus preventing the car from rolling uncontrolled.
Illuminating Front fog lamps ensure that, regardless of weather conditions, you’ll have as clear a view as possible of the road ahead. This type of illumination properly comes into its own during thick fog and/or heavy rain, and if you upgrade to the GLX trim, the car also features high-intensity LED projector lights.
