Easy on the eye In all its forms, the Suzuki Swift is a dashing-looking hatch, thanks in part to an artfully muscular body, gently flared wheel arches, a bold radiator grille and big headlamps. Compared to many in its class, the Swift manages to stand out. And you can make it do so even more by choosing a colour scheme that best matches your personality. A crisp Pure White Pearl coat is applied at no extra cost – but there are also optional colours available, including Speedy Blue, Burning Red and Super Black.
Colour-coded fixtures Whichever paint finish you decide upon, it’ll be perfectly matched by a wide range of body-coloured fixtures. These include electrically adjustable door mirror shells, door handles and front and rear bumpers.
Floating roof Thanks to its darkened A, B and C pillars, the Swift is afforded a ‘floating roof’ look, which further accentuates the vehicle’s sporty appearance. As does the inclusion of privacy glass, which is offered with Swift GL trims and up. Tinted windows not only look smart, they help to reduce the impact of intense sunshine.
Athletic alloys The Swift rides on eye-catching 16-inch alloys as standard, which aren’t designed merely with appearance in mind. Their lightweight yet super-robust design helps the vehicle to achieve optimal levels of performance and efficiency.
Petite yet practical Small it might be but the Suzuki Swift is also rather practical. For a start, its five-door body ensures that access for rear-row travellers is just as straightforward as it is for those in the front. The current-generation Swift is 20 millimetres wider than before, which means increased passenger and cargo space. And so in the rear compartment, there’s room for two adults – or a trio of younger travellers. Certainly, taller passengers will enjoy the headroom provided by the vehicle’s raised roofline. And if a minimum-capacity 242-litre boot isn’t sufficient for your needs, simply fold the car’s 60/40 split-folding rear seats to free up 556 litres of storage volume.
Climate control All models feature air-conditioning (digitally controlled with GLX Turbo trims) and power-operated windows, which means that arriving at an amenable cabin climate takes no time at all.
Get comfortable The driver is provided with a height-adjustable seat and a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, which helps to make it quick and easy establishing a comfortable position. Meanwhile, the GLX Turbo grade adds telescopic adjustability to its steering wheel. Whichever trim you choose, the wheel comes leather-wrapped and features handy audio controls.
Infotainment A seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system is fitted at no extra cost. This features satellite navigation and an MP3-compatible four-speaker stereo (while GLX Turbo grades add two tweeters). All models come with Bluetooth connectivity, which enables audio streaming and hands-free telephony. Android Auto/Apple CarPlay is another standard inclusion, allowing you to mirror your smartphone via the vehicle’s display.
Performance GL Navigator and GL Navigator Plus trims are propelled by a 1.2-litre 66kW engine, which is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. This returns a combined fuel-consumption figure of 4.6 litres per 100 km (4.8 litres if the vehicle is specified with automatic transmission). The same engine produces CO2 emissions from just 106g/km (110g/km with an automatic gearbox). GLX Turbo variants, meanwhile, deliver extra oomph since they are powered by a 1.0-litre 82kW engine (which is paired with six-speed automatic transmission).
Five-star safety Swift by name, safe by nature, this hatch has been awarded a maximum five-star crash-test rating by ANCAP. As well as several airbags, three-point seatbelts with pre-tensioners and load-limiters and ISOFIX child-seat fixtures, the car is fitted with numerous driving aids.
Reverse with confidence The Suzuki Swift comes with a reversing camera as standard, providing you with a clear view whenever you back-up the car. And GL Navigator Plus and GLX Turbo twins add reversing sensors that help to make the procedure even smoother.
Steady as she goes Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control are standard with all models, providing you with optimal control of the vehicle, even if the weather’s doing its best to undermine you. These technologies work in conjunction with one another, delivering enhanced steering and grip in all kinds of situations.
